Gospel Singer Fenny Kerubo celebrates 15-year music anniversary

Four-time groove awards winner, and state commendation recipient Fenny Kerubo is celebrating her 15-year anniversary of music with a massive homecoming party.

Kerubo who has 8 albums to her name and a smattering of awards and certificates, will be celebrating her 15th anniversary with a homecoming celebration at her rural home in Nyamira.

The homecoming, which will go down at the Magwagwa stadium, will be attended by a host of her celebrity friends and renowned gospel musicians.

Among those expected at the July 24 homecoming will be Neema Mwaipopo, Rose Muhando, Anastacia Mukabwa, Fortune Mwikala and Evaline Mthoka.

The all-day event will also be an opportunity for the celebrated singer to launch the Fenny Kerubo foundation.

The foundation, which was born out of her plan to help vulnerable families in Kenya's arid areas of Kakuma, Turkana, West porkot , Lodwar and Ukambani has already helped hundreds of families.

"My foundation was launched two years ago after a trip to Lodwar; after seeing how people were living, I decided to help with what I had," Kerubo said in a Youtube interview.

"I also started nurturing upcoming talent and educating those who were facing financial constraints,"

Fenny Kerubo's musical journey began when she was just 12 when she was appointed the choir mistress (child?) and went on to live to the hype, composing and delivering two albums for her church.

'I grew up in Magwagwa, Nyamira County, and attended a PAG church; I began my music career at 12, though my talent was always there, it was inborn, "she told a local daily.

Following that, she released her first album entitled 'Mataifa' circa 2006 and followed it up with another album 'Batinyie Amariga' in 2010, cementing herself as budding songrestress of her time.

Banking on her musical ingenuity, Kerubo dropped 'Antichrist', her third album in 2011, and, 'M-pesa', her fourth album in 2012.

But it was not until 2014, with her release of her fifth album 'Omorembe', loosely translated to 'peace', that her career took off.

Omorembe was nominated as best song of the year by Groove Awards, and went on to bag an award in June of 2015.

"The same year, I was honoured to attend and perform at the Mashujaa Day celebrations on 20th, 2015 at Nyayo National Stadium," Kerubo wrote on Facebook.

In 2016, Kerubo was feted by Groove Awards again; her song, 'Abasani Bo Omosunte' (my enemies), won the gospel song of the year.

In 2019, she was among notable Kenyans invited to State House during the Mashujaa Day Celebrations where she was feted as a National Heroine.

"The State commendation was validation that what I have been doing is good an useful to Kenyans. It encouraged me to keep going," she added.

15 years in the industry have taught her to be humble and to help those that she can while seeking the Kingdom of God.

"15 years in the industry has taught me humility, and to seek God in all ways because he alone is right," she added.
