Dubbed “Majaliwa”, Maureen's song is set to drop on Wednesday, September 17. In a social media post, the singer sparked a frenzy as fans question if the single is hinting at an end to Elani music group after their five-year break that commenced in 2020.
The trio band, consisting of Maureen, Wambui
Ngugi and Brian Chweya took the music scene by storm in 2013 after releasing
their debut single, “Jana Usiku”, granting them immediate airplay and
making people notice their harmonies.
The band continued to receive more admiration
from fans after releasing their hit song, “Kookoo”, blowing up the week’s chart,
taking second place behind Bahati’s “Barua”.
The song was shot in the streets of Nairobi and became the most successful production the band ever released.
In mid-2016 the group took a one-and-a-half-year hiatus before releasing “Heartbeat” in 2018 and releasing more songs
after that.
Their existing break came after releasing “Nimejaribu”
in 2020
Maureen Kunga announced her new single hash tagged #For My Mama, making fans wonder if more will be seen from Elani.
"This is an eternal family hakuna breakup hapa! A lot of people don't understand once you get authentic friendships you live together and you will never get any drama," Chweya told Kiss FM in 2022.
Then, he had released his first solo project dubbed 'I believe'.
Come May 2023, Wambui also quelled breakup rumours.
"We are enjoying each other's company during our little break from releasing projects together. We're also exploring other things we've always wanted to do," Wambui told Nairobi News.
