From water hawker to top-rated DJ: Meet DJ Covenant

At first glance, Daniel Kihoro's success story, also known as DJ Covenant, appears to be a work of fiction.

He was born in Nakuru town and raised in Machakos County before being transferred to the Gurem children's home in Kariokor, Starehe constituency, where he spent the majority of his childhood.

Life wasn't easy for Dj Covenant, who had to hawk water in the streets of Mwiki, a small town in Kasarani, just to make ends meet, but he was determined to break the yoke of poverty.

Covenant never gave up on his dream of becoming a successful artist in Kenya, despite numerous obstacles and setbacks.

And, through a combination of hard work, talent, and determination, he was able to overcome the odds and make a name for himself in the music industry.

"I know what it's like to struggle and to feel like you don't have a future. But I also know that if you work hard and never give up, you can achieve anything you set your mind to."Dj Covenant told Citizen Digital.

He is now widely regarded as one of Kenya's most accomplished and innovative DJs, having worked in the entertainment industry for nearly a decade.

His story is an inspiration to anyone who has ever faced adversity in pursuit of their goals.

Growing up in a children's home inspired him to work hard; Covenant found solace in music and spent most of his free time listening to gospel music on the radio.

He fell in love with the art of deejaying and began to hone his skills.

After completing his high school education, he enrolled in a DJ school in Nairobi under the care of Dj Nevs, who accorded him time to cut his teeth.

“I have gone through a lot of hardship but few people know about it but I thank God someone like Dj Nevs realized my talent and helped me to expose it to the world, ‘he said.

He got his first job at Hope FM, a popular Christian radio station where his unique style caught the attention of many listeners.

He was later recruited by Hot 96, a mainstream radio station, owned by Royal media service where he hosted a popular show.

Covenant's big break came when he was approached by Inooro TV, a popular Kikuyu language TV station in 2016.

He became their resident DJ and his popularity soared. His unique style and love for music caught the attention of many, and he quickly became a household name.

He has accredited part of his success to Pastor ANTHONY AJIDUAH(God used him to pioneer a new chapter of My Life), George Wachiuri (Optiven CEO), Sylvester Njuguna and Monjos Wa Gas (CEO of Nuru Gas) and Simon Kariuki, Ben Githae(artist), Pastor Mwangi Zakayo, Mary Lincoln among others.

As his career progressed, Covenant became a brand ambassador for various companies both with international tastes and local brands.

Besides his busy schedule, he mostly uses his spare time to visit children's homes and mentor them and sharpen their skills.

He is optimistic that he will launch his Dj Academy in the future to help the talented but from underprivileged families.

In addition to his busy schedule, Covenant is also passionate about nurturing new talent in the DJ industry. He has plans to open a DJ academy that will provide training to young aspiring DJs.
