Self-declared President of Comedy in Africa, Eric Omondi, has hinted at enlisting the help of Embakasi East MP Babu Owino to table a Bill before the National Assembly seeking to have all Kenyan media outlets play 75% of local music.

Omondi, taking to Instagram on Wednesday, revealed that he had met the vocal legislator to work on what he termed as “the last touches” of the Bill before it is tabled next week.

The comedian, who has since also taken on the hat of ‘saviour’ of Kenyan music, further expressed confidence that the Bill would be passed by the House.

“Today at Parliament buildings with Hon. Babu Owino working on the last touches for next week Tuesday. Next week Tuesday we will be tabling the Bill in Parliament officially,” wrote the funnyman.

“Its a journey but we will get there. The MPs will pass the Bill and the President will [sign] it into Law.”

Netizens showed mixed reactions to the revelation, some commending him while others just wondering whether he will actually go through with it.

“Something great is cooking,” @Philosto commented.

“Are you sure it will go through, or are you jealous of artists from other countries taking over our market. This Bill will not help because we will still listen to international music from our phones.” @Omar hussein commented.

In recent times, Omondi has not been shy on his campaign to push Kenyan music, which has at times put him at loggerheads with same artists he is purportedly fighting for.
