Elsa Majimbo stirs the internet with Ksh.153K reward for video of her saying 'I hate Kenya'
Embattled content creator Elsa Majimbo has
vowed to pay $1,000 (Ksh.151,792 by current exchange rates) to anyone
who can produce a video of her saying the words, “I hate Kenya.”
This comes a
week after Elsa rubbed the internet the wrong way after claiming that money had
changed her and appearing to brashly taunt her haters and followers alike.
The outspoken Hollywood model, who now hobnobs with the rich and famous, recently took
to Tiktok to confirm that, indeed, her wealth had changed her and that she was
never humble in the first place.
"I have
seen a lot of comments saying how money has changed me so much. Of course, it
has, are you joking? I was never humble, I was a victim of circumstances. Do
you know the difference?" she quipped while dropping her usual sarcastic
laughter.
"What
happened to the old Elsa? She got her money up. My net worth went to the roof.
My style changed. I'm rich now, even the laughter is rich!"
Immediately
after those comments, fans turned against her, attacking her for her
insensitivity and her aloofness, with many asking her to humble down and tone
down the rich rhetoric.
As the
attacks prevailed, a section of people berated her for her dark-skin, telling
her he will always remain an African woman despite her elevated wealth status.
Now, the
humorist is back again with the back and forth, this time, attempting to shoot
down the wild rumors which suggest that she once said that she hates Kenya -
her country of origin.
"I will
pay $1000 to anyone who can produce a video of me saying the words ‘I hate
Kenya’" she posted on X (formerly Twitter).
When someone
asked her, "What's up?", she commented, "Everyone says I do when
I don’t and have never said those words and I never will!"
In the past,
the hugely-successful comedienne has said that she would never come back to
Kenya - variously on her social media platforms and even on an interview with
British supermodel Naomi Campbell.
The
22-year-old Forbes magazine star, through one of her TikTok videos, also
previously said that facing discrimination and negativity due to her dark skin
compelled her to seek a more supportive environment abroad.
Majimbo
expressed her experiences of being subjected to derogatory comments about her
skin tone while growing up and living in Kenya.
She recalled
remarks such as “oh, you are so dark” and “look at that tint,” which fueled a
toxic environment.
While
claiming that Kenya was rife with colorism, Majimbo said that her move to
relocate to the US was boosted by the negativity her skin tone faced in Kenya
as compared to countries like South Africa and the US.
"In the
US, everyone is like, ‘oh my God, look at your skin, it is so stunning, it
looks like pearl, it’s shining.’ So why wouldn’t I not be paid in dollars?” she
asserted.
Despite the
tantalising monetary offer, so far, no one has produced a video of Majimbo
explicitly saying that she 'hates Kenya'.
However, people have shared several clips of her decrying her motherland and saying that she would never come back to Kenya.
You know what, Elsa? Stick to the country you love, and no one has a problem with that. It's not like Kenya would come to a sudden stop if you hate it. https://t.co/6UyPGy2Cbm
This Kenyan decided to lash out against a whole country because she couldn't make friends at school or convince people she's either funny or pretty.... now we have to deal with this nonsense day in and out.
Guys, once you run from Kenya enjoy your new home and identity. Tuwache https://t.co/vjGF8OeiZN

I'm pretty sure I remember you said Kenyans didn't support your content, only South Africans ... Is this the Mandela effect? 🤔 https://t.co/vACXNm4GId— Wamkimsgal ☙ (@MWamakima) November 24, 2023
