Dyana Cods explains why hit song 'Set it' was pulled down from YouTube
Dyana Cods has become a household name in
Kenya these past few months following her viral song ‘Set It’ featuring Ajay
from Buruklyn Boyz, which made rounds all over TikTok and even had its own
designated dance trend.
However, the glory was short lived as the
‘Set It’ music video was recently pulled down from YouTube without any apparent
reason; leaving her supporters baffled and confused.
When asked about the reason why the music
video was pulled down, Cods cited differences between herself and Ajay.
“They (Ajay) hadn’t paid for a debt they had
with a distribution company, so they were coming for the revenues from my song.
We just took it to court. We’re not negotiating,” she told Citizen
Digital.
Ajay took to social media to respond to Cods’
claims that he and his team pulled down the song from YouTube stating
that “huwezi kula keki pekee yako,” implying that Cods was taking the lion's
share of the profits from the song.
This seems to be a trend cropping up among
artists who cannot seem to agree on standard terms for their collaborations.
Music producer Cedric ‘Cedo’ Kadenyi and
singer Nyashinski had a similar falling out, with Cedo claiming that he was
paid significantly less than the returns from a project they collaborated on.
The altercation led to Nyashinski pulling 20
of his hits from Spotify and Apple Music in the same month, majority of them
having been produced by Cedo.
