Coast-based star Kizo B released from prison after intervention by Willy M Tuva

Coast-based R&B-turned gospel singer Kizo B, real name Partick Machanje, has been released from custody three weeks after he was detained at the Shimo La Tewa prison.

His release was facilitated by renowned media personality Mzazi Willy M. Tuva. His case was being heard at the Shanzu Law Courts.

The singer had been arrested in connection with an alleged land dispute, prompting a legal dispute which saw him hauled behind bars and spend three harrowing weeks under State custody.

Following his release, Willy Tuva took to social media to express his relief and gratitude.

"Freedom at last! Kizo B’s case is closed—Glory be to God! Big thanks to the Shanzu Law Courts, Shimo La Tewa Prison, the brilliant lawyer Mtana Harvey, my brother Collins Muraya, and all well-wishers. A new chapter begins, and we’ll be there to guide him every step of the way!" he said.

The Mambo Mseto presenter had earlier updated fans on his involvement in securing Kizo B’s freedom.

"Kizo B Liberation Mission: Traveled to Mombasa this week with my friend Collins Muraya to follow up on Kizo B’s case. We had a productive discussion with the complainants and their lawyer, Harvey Mtana, making significant progress toward his release. Kizo B has been in Shimo La Tewa Prison for over two weeks now. Now, we await the ruling. Stay tuned!" he wrote.

Kizo B himself later announced his freedom in an emotional video posted on Instagram, expressing gratitude to his supporters and signaling the start of a new chapter in his life.

In the video, Kizo B, visibly relieved and joyful, said: “Freedom at last! The storm is over, and a new chapter begins. I give all glory to God for seeing me through."

His matter hit the headlines three weeks ago after he appeared in a distressing video from a police cell in Shanzu, Mombasa County, pleading for help amid a legal battle.

In a video shared on his Instagram page, an evidently troubled Kizo B called on his fans for support while explaining the circumstances surrounding his arrest.

He said, "To all my fans, I ask for your support as you watch this video. I am currently in the Shanzu police cell in Shimo la Tewa, facing a case based on false accusations. I have pleaded not guilty and need to secure my release on bond. Please, I sincerely appeal to you for help. I need your support."

The celebrated singer, who relocated to Mombasa to invest in land, explained how he found himself entangled in an ugly land dispute.

According to him, he was accused of threatening someone's life with a machete, an allegation he strongly denied.

He maintained that the accusations against him were merely baseless, explaining that land ownership issues in Mombasa often lacked clear documentation, making disputes difficult to resolve legally.

"I have been falsely accused of threatening someone's life using a machete. I didn't threaten anyone. These lands in Mombasa have no title deeds, and you can't be sued over them even if disputes arise," he stated, urging fans and well-wishers to support him in seeking justice.

Two months ago, he had also sent out a distressing message on his YouTube channel where he appealed to his followers to assist him get back to the studio simply because, “I'm kind of stuck that's why I'm not producing any new songs. I love music and I wish to sing more.”

Amid his mounting legal woes, Kizo B also dismissed false runots of his death, revealing that his social media accounts had allegedly been hacked.

Soon after his release, hundreds of fans and fellow artists expressed their support and welcomed him back into the community, with singer Bahati even inviting him for a music collaboration.

Bahati wrote, "Mzadee mlete studio nampa collabo mchizi arudi kwa game," to which Willy M Tuva replied, "@bahatikenya thank you very much for offering to collaborate with Kizo B. Let me bring him back to Nairobi and we make the arrangements. Hii nitafuatilia mpaka ifanikiwe inshallah."
