Tanzanian Gospel artist Christina Shusho’s 2021 hit ‘Shusha Nyavu’ has continued to dominate the headlines, emerging as the top streamed Gospel song by Kenyan Gen Zs.

This is according to data by digital music service Spotify, covering both local and global listenership on the platform.

Shusho released the song in April 2021, but it became a major hit in Kenya towards the end of 2023, surprisingly garnering airtime not just in worship places but also in entertainment spots and social gatherings.

The song’s popularity spiralled after Kenyans realized that the Gospel legend plucked the lyrics straight from the Bible - and then created musical magic with it in the studio.

According to the Spotify data, the other songs rounding off the top 5 most streamed Gospel tracks by Kenyan Gen Zs were;

  • Ehis 'D' Greatest, Victor Thompson - This Year (Blessing)
  • Israel Mbonyi – Nina Siri
  • Phina – Sisi ni Wale
  • Adawnage – Naomba

Overall, Spotify noted that Kenyan Gen Z's Christian Gospel music streams grew by 365% between 2022 and 2024.

It also stated that their Christian podcast streams rose by 69% within the same period, listing the top 5 most streamed in this category as below:

  • Gospel Music Explosion
  • The Daily Bible
  • Let God Podcast
  • Apostle Joshua Selman
