Chipukeezy slammed for 'insensitive' comments on working with Ruto administration

Comedian and Master of Ceremony Chipukeezy, real name Vincent Muasya, has defended his decision to work for the government even as Kenyans continue piling pressure on creatives affiliated with the Kenya Kwanza administration.

Chipukeezy, a Churchill Show alumni and one of the most renowned Kenyan stand-up comedians, on Tuesday, October 22 took to his online platforms to shut down his detractors, adding that he wouldn't shy away from a paying government job simply because some Kenyans were against his employer.

An unrepentant Chipukeezy also asked Kenyans agitating for change to be accommodative of everyone's political and social affiliations, adding that one could still fight for a better Kenya but do it 'with harmony'.

He said: "To those who keep attacking us for what we are doing, let me tell you, it will be very hard to quit a paying job. You mean I would simply walk away from a job so that you celebrate me online? How stupid would I be?"

"I'm an MC. I wouldn't be asked to go MC a function and then turn down the opportunity just so that I can change Kenya. If you have a cause to change Kenya, I wish you well. But just because we are not part of your cause, don't think we are pushovers."

The former KBC TV host also imploded his detractors to champion for their causes without hate, adding that street protests would not yeild much as they didn't necessarily benefit any individual protester and have not proven to change the lives of a protester's family.

"You need to build a harmonious Kenya, one that has space for everyone, including those you don't agree with," he said. "You don't need to keep threatening me for making moves that are against your beliefs."

He added, "And by the way, there's no amount of street protests that will ever benefit you as a person. How do you benefit your family while in the streets? Who directed you to help save Kenya? Let me government work. We can only change this government through voting it out in 2027. "

Chipukeezy's candid comments have attracted a barrage of criticism from Kenyans on X, telling him off for displaying an aloof attitude at a time when the country was faced with a never-ending cycle of political calamities.

Journalist and communications expert Sarah Mwangi said, "So long as it’s working for me I see no problem. What a sad mentality! One day they will come for you and there’ll be no one to speak for you! May we be better human beings."

Someone else said, "You’d be forgiven to think he’s amassing generational wealth whole time it’s breadcrumbs which won’t even cover one serious illness."

On his part, Edwin Kamau said, "This poor boy thinks Ruto and his people care about him. Young man, you're being used. These people will dump you at the slightest opportunity. The fact that you're dancing with them now dancing mean the song will play forever. Such a sad mentality from such a young man!"

Yet another Kenyan opined, "You mean to tell me with all the political mess we are in as a country someone still sees nothing wrong with this government? Kenyans are dying in hospitals, students cannot afford university fees and the entire country is being sold to Indians but still, someone says, give the government time! Wow!"

Bravin Yuri also chimed in, saying, "This is a characteristic of people who stand for nothing but everything. They move with the wind. Chameleons, if I may. They are like cats that dream of being lions but still have an appetite for rats. They’d watch a house burn & not intervene since they’d get a job to rebuild."

As most of his peers in the entertainment industry continue to speak out on various ills the Ruto administration continues to commit, Chipu, as he's fondly known, has remained characteristically silent, preferring to hold his thoughts on many hot topics.
