'Childhood fantasies' Grand Mulla lampoons CS Kuria over 'military' attire, war of words ensues

Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Performance and Delivery Management Moses Kuria on Wednesday was dragged into an online exchange with high-flying city lawyer Ahmednassir Abdulahi, alias Grand Mullah, after the latter lampooned his choice of attire at a public event.

Mr Ahmednassir, not one to mince his words, took to the microblogging site X (formerly Twitter) to castigate Moses Kuria for wearing what appeared to be military fatigue and even inspecting a guard of honour during the National Youth Service (NYS) reengineering programme at the NYS headquarters in Ruaraka.

A clearly displeased Grand Mulla called out the former Trade Cabinet Secretary claiming that his choice of attire was a futile effort done to 'impress (their) village mates at taxpayer's expense' and that the 'obsession' with military uniforms was a mockery of office.

"I SEE TROUBLE AHEAD! H.E @WilliamsRuto should enforce a strict dress code on his ministers. I don't like cabinet secretaries (@HonMoses_Kuria) living their childhood fantasies or trying to impress their village mates at taxpayer's expenses by dressing in jungle military regalia with their names and titles printed on it!" Mr. Ahmednassir wrote.

"This fetish obsession with military uniforms by his Ministers makes a complete nonsense/joke of the offices they hold!"

While many appeared to agree with the renowned lawyer, the fiery Kuria was having none of that, taking to the same platform to attack his detractor, disappointed that, even after 'everything he did at the event', Ahmednassir only chose to pick a fight with his uniform.

"Dear Grand Mullah @ahmednasirlaw. Of all the issues we raised today about doing something for the youth of this country all you picked was about my uniform? Anyway for the last 20 years you have visited your Mandera village thrice, what do you know about villagers?" he asked.

"You can stick to your elite villagers at Karen Blixen and I will wear this so many times until you get used to it!"

Kuria's choice of attire was also lambasted by Azimio strategist Makau Mutua who went as far as calling for the Cabinet Secretary's removal from office.

"Why is ⁦@HonMoses_Kuria⁩ clowning like an illiterate military putschist from Niger? This is an open and shut case for his dismissal! This man needs to be sacked pronto. What a total embarrassment!" Makau tweeted.

Since they assumed office, most of the men in President William Ruto's Cabinet have been photographed on numerous occasions wearing military fatigues while officiating events and even inspecting a guard of honor.

Interior CS Kithure Kindiki, for instance, has worn military fatigues more than seven times in less than one year in office.

The soft-spoken minister wore the outfits at a visit to Turkana West, in Lamu County, at a border post visit in Mandera County and again at an Anti Stock Theft Unit (ASTU) camp in West Turkana.

Back in February, Kileleleshwa MCA Robert Alai took issue with Kindiki's penchant for the uniforms, saying, "Don’t wear these uniforms if you don’t want civilians wearing them. Don’t just wear them unless you have earned it!"
