Kenya’s Sauti Sol music group is set to release a new song two years after taking a break to focus on solo projects.

Their long silence has now come to an end as the boy band is set to release a song dubbed Lil Mama on Friday, November 25.

On their social media, the ‘boys’ who met at Upper Hill school years ago have been teasing fans in what seems to be the cover photo of the new song.

In the photo, Sauti Sol members are dressed in dazzling clothes, accompanied by helmets resembling those of French electronic music duo Daft Punk.

"Excited to announce our first official single as a group in 2 years! Lil Mama out this Friday on all platforms,” they announced.

According to them, the new piece gives out a unique identify of the group as well as the direction to which they are moving to.

"Future Rhumba. A sonic evaluation that is reflective of rhumba sounds and the future. It is the essence of Sauti Sol, a unique identify that connects who Sauti Sol fundamentally,to where we are going.”

The last time they worked on group songs was in 2020, when they released the Midnight Train album.

In 2021, Sauti sol announced that they will take a break to work on solo projects under the Alone Together mantle.

"Alone Together" is the mantra we formed to define the unique next chapter as brothers. It ties with our natural progression of self-growth, while still being a single unit,” they said in 2021.

“It is a wonderful journey in which we are self-actualising by showcasing our personal strengths and characters as the artists who came together to form Sauti Sol.”

They said ‘Alone Together' was a child of the COVID-19 pandemic, as it was the result of deep reflections they experienced as individuals and as a group.
