Anne Kansiime opens up on undergoing several abortions while in campus
Ugandan comedienne Anne Kansiime has recalled
her past traumatic experiences with abortions and miscarriages, which she says
nearly cost her a chance at motherhood.
Kansiime acknowledged having undergone several
abortions while in campus, saying she later regretted the choices and even had
to beg God for pardon before eventually giving birth to her son.
“Miscarriages also happen to people who have
never aborted, virgins who get pregnant. But when you get a miscarriage of a child
that you want, you start taking stock of why you could be getting miscarriages,
and I started counting the how many times I aborted in campus,” she stated
during an interview on ‘Bump Love’ YouTube channel.
The comedienne said she concealed news of her
pregnancy prior to her son’s birth because “I couldn’t stand anyone having an
opinion about that blessing before it came because opinions had costed me so
much.”
According to Kansiime, she had an unconscious
belief that she had lost some pregnancies to people who had opinions about her
life and consequently harmed her chances of becoming a mother at the time.
“I kept it a secret because you don’t want
the devil to hear, and I lost so many from people hearing. Like subconsciously
I felt that’s why I was losing…like sometimes I would be pregnant and I don’t
know, but those who know pregnant people had something to say,” she said.
She also said she values being a mother,
promising not to take the chance for granted as it had greatly helped her.
“There’s one thing I cannot take for granted;
being a mother. I feel it saved my life. I was going down a place that I didn’t
know I was going and everyone around you is like ‘you girl, if I could be in
your shoes for a second’ and I’m like are you sure? Me being a mom scrapes every
title, value and then people are like they don’t get it,” she explained.
Kansiime and her husband Tukahiirwa Abraham
aka Skylanta welcomed their son, Selassie Ataho, in April 2021.
