2 ASUNDER: Thrilling Kenyan film to premiere worldwide in November

2 ASUNDER is created and produced by SensePLAY (Betty M. Mutua and Fakii Liwali), the Executive Producers of 40 Sticks. The screenplay was written by Charles Chanchori, and the film directed by Tony Mwaura and Fakii Liwali.
2 ASUNDER is a fictional story revolving around a blushing bride played by Stephanie Ciku Muchiri , a determined groom played by Bruce Makau , a treacherous best man played by Kevin “K1” Maina, also a DJ and an overbearing matriarch played by Sanaipei Tande, fighting against a ticking clock of deep dark secrets that threaten to end this wealthy family.
Set in the one per cent of Kenya’s moneyed class, 2 ASUNDER examines the long-lasting effects of traditional beliefs and practices via the lens of family and especially marriage.
Written in English and Kiloka (a fictional language with Bantu influences created specifically for this film) 2 ASUNDER is a first indulgence in film directing for Tony Mwaura.
“2 Asunder is a phenomenal story, and I really hope the audiences will appreciate the way we told this story, "he said.
"The whole process was nerve-wrecking and very exciting at the same time; the cast and crew in Kenya are extremely talented and were a joy to work with."
Tony has, in the past decade, directed various TV commercials and pop-music videos under his company, Absolute Media Pictures (AMP), and this is his debut foray into feature film directing.
Shot in Nairobi and Kiambu counties in Kenya across 4 principal locations – Marula Manor, Sovereign Suites, Tigoni and Paradise Lost, over a 10-day shoot period in August and September 2023, 2 ASUNDER is a SensePLAY production, in association with AMP, Decimal Records, Bingi Media and Six to Six Entertainment.
The production features Jim Bishop as the Director of Photography, Isaya Evans as 1st Assistant Director, ace music producer Eric Musyoka on Music & Final Audio Mix, Edu Gee as Editor, and with cameo appearances by Makena Kahuha, Ann-Stella Karimi, Naomi Mburuh and DJ Dii.
The film also features music from Alex ‘Big Soul” Mugenda, Nyashinski and Bensoul.
The film has been rated 18 by the Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB).
The main trailer is set for release on Tuesday October 15, 2024, along with a host of promo material to be released gradually through SensePlay Kenya Instagram, Facebook, X, TikTok and YouTube pages, along with screening details.
2 ASUNDER is a proud beneficiary of the Film Empowerment Programme (cycle 3, 2023) by the Kenya Film Commission in association with the Germany Agency for International Cooperation.
