Risper Genga, the Group Chief Financial Officer at EABL, says she ended up studying accounting because her father warned her it was tough and since she was good at maths, she thought she’d prove that it wasn’t that hard.

She likes a good challenge and got into the world of accounting and finance through sheer defiance and to prove that she could do hard things.

Risper Genga, the Group Chief Financial Officer at EABL, says she ended up studying accounting because her father warned her it was tough and since she was good at maths, she thought she’d prove that it wasn’t that hard.

And that she did.

Risper built a thriving career in accounting, working across multinationals and across borders for several years, before transitioning into finance and moving back to Kenya to take up her current role.

She says that while many women are competent, some of the challenges they face are balancing between not wanting to look like pushovers and not wanting to be perceived as being too tough.

That, Risper says, makes many have to work that much harder to break conscious and unconscious biases.

On work-life integration, Risper speaks on the importance of partnership and valuing family.

What does success look like to her? It’s all about impact and being the kind of leader that brings out the best in others.
