SHE MEANS BUSINESS| Njeri Jomo's rise from insurance agent to CEO of the year
Jubilee Health Insurance, Njeri Jomo.
Despite winning several awards, including CEO of the year and many others for the organization she leads, Njeri Jomo will tell you that an accolade is just that – an accolade.
As CEO and principal officer of Jubilee Health Insurance, Njeri is careful not to allow accolades to get to her head and derail her from the great responsibility that comes with leadership.
She Means Business recently sat down with Njeri to understand why she is so passionate about transformational leadership and why she believes everyone should understand financial literacy if they want to gain true wealth and leave a legacy.
Njeri says that leadership often looks like a glossy affair to the outside world, but it comes with a lot of hard work – to be able to draw up a vision for an organization and have a team buy into it and execute it is no walk in the park.
With over two decades in the financial services and insurance sector, Njeri says that she is glad she gained experience in all facets of the industry because it gave her a solid understanding of what it takes to get customers to be accepting of solutions that are offered.
She admits that she had to do a lot of self work during her early days in the industry as an insurance agent, because at that time agents were looked down on like “hawkers”.
However, in retrospect, she says the work gave her a solid foundation on how to approach strategy when drawing up solutions that resonate with customers.
On building wealth, Njeri says that financial literacy is key to wealth creation, adding that wealthy people are intentional about how they spend their money, which makes some people view them as ‘stingy’ but in reality, they are deliberate about saving and investing.
