SHE MEANS BUSINESS| From ‘briefcase’ trainer to franchise owner
She Means Business sat down with the owner of a training franchise in Kenya to discuss what it takes to own this kind of business, the highs and lows of entrepreneurship and the importance of impact beyond chasing money.
“Sometimes you are not carrying the wrong load, but are carrying it the wrong way and that’s why you are finding things difficult,” Kimani says when referring to business people going about their trade in the wrong way and complaining things are not working.
She says that entrepreneurs need the ability to withstand a high level of risk without giving up, and not everyone can do that.
Kimani speaks of losing money and failing in business, before finally getting her rhythm, adding that she opted to get into the franchise business because the structures are already set up for an entrepreneur, reducing the burnout.
On balancing work and other life commitments, Kimani advises women to be present in each season of life they find themselves in and learn how to balance between pressing the accelerator and brakes on the vehicle that is life.
