Catholic Priest speaks on defecting from church, his wife and kids

Father Edwin Waiguru quit the Roman Catholic priesthood and later defected Catholic Charismatic church because he was conflicted at heart.  According to him, while on a mission to Haiti, he would introduce himself as a Roman priest and yet people and himself would see he was far from being Roman.

Father Waiguru said after being sent to preach in North and South America, he felt the need to marry and have a family.

“It really bothered me that I would introduce myself as a Roman priest yet I am an African man, I really got interested in learning about who an African man is and our ways. A long the way while on a mission to in the USA, I quit priesthood to took,” he explained

As the world grappled with the COVID crisis, Father Waiguru who now serves under the Catholic Charismatic Church met the woman who would later become his wife and decided to fly back home.

Coming back home after quitting I was expecting a cold reception because I quit Roman Catholic but that was not the case, because of the fear and social distance people were not really on my case, so that gave me the space to settle and plan life with my soon to be wife,’ he said.

When he returned to Kenya, he decided to marry in a traditional ceremony. The couple has been blessed with three children

Wedding lovers were today subjected to a unique wedding Father Waiguru got married in colourful matrimony to Margaret Wanjira Githui at Michael’s Pot Gardens in Ikinu Githunguri.

The Father was ordained as a Catholic Charismatic priest on the same day.

“I was ordained again as a Charismatic priest and also solemnized my marriage. I am very happy, and God blessed us with three children and I also serve God as a priest,” he said

According to him, he remains a servant of God and is Catholic but differs only on the sacrament of Marriage where priests from his Church marry.

Married men are allowed to become priests in the Eastern Rite of the Catholic Church as well as in the Orthodox Church.
