Michael Kojo: How one Kenyan’s bold stand turned him into a national meme
Michael Kojo, a Kenyan who helped draft the NADCO report, piqued Kenyans' interest when he spoke at a public participation forum.
Kojo challenged the NADCO committee, which is co-chaired by Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka and National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung'wah, citing constitutional provisions.
His references to the constitution in his arguments piqued the interest of not only the committee, but also Kenyans in general, who admired him for standing up to the powers that be while adhering to the constitution and the rule of law.
In an interview with Citizen Digital, Kojo narrates how he travelled all the way from his hometown in Homa Bay county just to participate in the drafting of the report.
“I took a bus from Homa Bay together with my two other friends and travelled all the way to Nairobi. We wanted to be part of the process of drafting the report with the hope that it would bring good governance,” Kojo said.
He reveals that he has been actively at the forefront advocating for good governance in every aspect of his life.
“I have been active in fighting for what is right, even when I was a school boy. I remember in form one I was picked to preach to the entire school, including form fours,” Kojo added.
He said his desire for good governance pushed him to challenge the NADCO team when they were invited to give their views.
“I was attending when Kalonzo turned to the media and gave them the chance to ask questions. Instead I raised my hand and asked to be heard. Luckily he saw me and they allowed me to give my views because that is why I travelled all the way from Homa Bay,” Kojo further said.
“I particularly quoted the constitution because that is what guides us as Kenyans. The constitution should be the reference point whenever we are about to make decisions that will affect the nation,” he added.
Born in Nairobi to parents who worked in the public service, Kojo and his family moved to Homa Bay where he studied and grew up. He is keen on bettering governance in the country.
