How practical is having an electric car in Kenya?
As the transition to green mobility slowly
takes shape in African countries, much of what Kenya has seen so far are
electric public transit buses and two-wheelers, such as bicycles and
motorbikes.
For the cars, Kenyan motorists have majorly
embraced hybrid electric varieties – those with traditional internal combustion
engines and electric powertrains, delivering fuel economy and eco-friendliness.
Pure electric cars are still not as
popular.
Kenya-based Moja EV Africa is taking an
early bet on the local market with one of the first new electric cars to be
sold locally, the Neta V, with which it targets taxi drivers.
Citizen Digital explores the feasibility of having such a car in Kenya, where the public EV charging network is still
scarce and buying prices remain higher than that of internal combustion engine
vehicles.
