Celestine Ndinda: The good money in content creation and navigating contract clauses
Being a busy content creator, Ndinda’s day is filled with several engagements, and one spillover can mess the flow of the entire day.
It turns out that she had gone to the wrong location and the time was eaten up trying to navigate to the right location.
“I hate being late; I was looking at the time and asking myself, ‘Do I really mean business!’” referring to the name of the show: She Means Business.
As we settle in for the interview, I ask Ndinda about the business side of content creation and influencing and whether there is good enough money to live on, away from the glitz and glamour that is portrayed on social media.
“Yes,” she says emphatically.
“There is money in content creation. It is what me and my family live on,” she says.
Ndinda’s husband, popularly known as Njugush, is also a content creator.
Ndinda says that it takes discipline and consistency to succeed in content creation, adding that it is a job, just like any other.
On the lessons she’s learnt so far in the business, she advises aspiring content creators and even those already in the space to take the issue of contracts seriously.
“Word of mouth is not a good idea…. And get a professional to look through a contract whose clauses you might not understand,” Ndinda says.
She says some of the mistakes she made early on in her journey include making arbitrary quotes for clients seeking her services, rather than figures based on the value she was bringing.
