Women in Tech, CTW Global eye targeted initiatives to spur digital economy

By Raph Wangutusi,

African women are set to gain greater access to opportunities in technology and innovation after a new partnership between Women in Technology and Innovation Africa (WITIA), and China Trade Week Global.

The collaboration is looking to bridge the gender gap in Africa’s rapidly growing digital economy by equipping women with skills and funding.

Unveiled ahead of the 10th Edition of the China Trade Week in Kenya, the initiative will focus on skills development and mentorship for women-led ventures.

The alliance comes at a time when Africa’s digital economy is poised for exponential growth, with projections placing it among the most significant global markets in the coming decade. This is as women’s participation in the sector remains disproportionately low, largely due to barriers such as limited access to education, training, and professional networks.

WITIA and CTW Global aim to address the challenges through targeted initiatives, including skills development, entrepreneurial support, networking and recognition, and policy advocacy.

Eunice Pohlmann, Founder and Chair of WITIA, expressed optimism about the partnership:

“By joining forces with China Trade Week Global, we’re not only expanding opportunities for women in Africa but also building a bridge that connects African innovation with global resources. This partnership is a critical step toward a future where African women are equal global players in technology and business.”

On the other hand, Zahoor Ahmed, the Global Partnerships Lead at CTW Global, echoed her sentiments saying; “By empowering African women, we are creating new pathways for innovation and economic growth that will benefit both regions.”
