Super petrol and kerosene prices are set to come down by Ksh.0.85 and Ksh.3.96 per litre respectively from Saturday following the latest maximum pump price review by the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA).

The two will now retail at Ksh.194.68 for petrol while kerosene will go for Ksh.169.48 per litre in the country's capital Nairobi.

However, the cost of diesel remains unchanged and will still go for Ksh.179.67.

“In accordance with Section 101(y) of the Petroleum Act 2019 and Legal Notice No.192 of 2022, the Energy & Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has calculated the maximum retail prices of petroleum products which will be in force from 15th July 2023 to 14th August 2023,” EPRA said in a statement.

“The prices are inclusive of the 16% Value Added Tax (VAT) in line with the provisions of the Finance Act 2023, the Tax Laws (Amendment) Act 2020 and the revised rates for excise duty adjusted for inflation as per Legal Notice No. 194 of 2020.”

The review by the Authority comes amid an ongoing court battle where EPRA last month amended the Value Added Tax (VAT) requirement on fuel from 8% to 16% in direct defiance of a High Court ruling that barred the implementation of the contentious Finance Act, 2023.

The prices of diesel and kerosene went up by Ksh.12.39 and Ksh.11.96 respectively, pushing the cost of the critical commodity to Ksh.179.67 and 173.44 respectively while that of petrol increased to Ksh.195.53.
