Spiro raises over Ksh.6.4B debt financing to expand electric motorbike infrastructure

Spiro says that the new capital will support the continued expansion of Spiro's battery swapping network across existing and new markets, while advancing its proprietary technology platform, including automated battery swaps, fast charging, and renewable energy integration.

Spiro founder Gagan Gupta said that the funding will pave way for introduction of affordable clean energy and mobility in Africa.

“Spiro’s growth exemplifies the power of Made-in-Africa, for-Africa solutions. By combining local insights with global best practices, we are creating a resilient, green energy ecosystem that supports economic development and climate goals," he said.

The funding comes after the company secured a landmark Ksh.12.9 billion ($100 million) investment round in October 2025, the largest investment ever in an African two-wheel electric mobility.

Founded in 2022, Spiro has pioneered a vision to transform Africa’s transportation sector by building a mobility ecosystem that integrates advanced battery swapping and mass market accessible motorcycles.

It is currently in Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Nigeria, Benin and Togo and recently launched pilot programs in Tanzania and Cameroon.

Spiro says it has deployed more than 80,000 electric bikes, circulated over 300,000 batteries, completed more than 30 million battery swaps, established over 2,500 swap stations, and enabled more than one billion CO₂- free kilometres travelled.
