Showfa: New taxi-hailing app launched in Kenyan market

A new taxi-hailing app operating on a different business model has been launched in the Kenyan market.

On the new platform dubbed  Showfa, cab drivers and motorbike riders will be required to pay a one-off daily or monthly subscription, unlike other platforms where they are charged a commission per trip.

Speaking during the launch attended by Trade Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria,  Showfa Business Development Director Dhruv Rajah said the interests of the drivers had been well captured in their unique operation.

"We have done market research and what the riders and drivers tell us is that they pay too much and exorbitant fees in commissions to foreign companies. We want to change that, we want a platform where they can save more," Rajah said.

"When you have a happy driver or a rider, the customers flow in because they are assured of better services."

Rajah also assured that the platform would be safer and cheaper for customers.

He expressed confidence that Showfa would  thrive in the Kenyan market and compete with established firms,  adding that the platform will also launch ambulance services where customers can order rescue services through the application.

“We are working through some emergency services which we will announce very soon. We will have an application on the App where at the click of a button you can call an ambulance, and it will trigger the closest ambulance in your location," said the Showfa Business Development Director.

Trade CS Moses Kuria said the government would support Showfa operations in the country since it puts the interests of the drivers and riders ahead
