Safaricom PLC has launched the second leg of its M-PESA Sokoni caravan in the Rift Valley region, marking 18 years since the mobile money service revolutionized financial inclusion in Kenya.

Branded under the theme “Maisha Fiti, Biz Shwari,” the tour aims to celebrate customer loyalty, drive engagement, and showcase the transformative impact of M-PESA across the country.

The caravan, which kicked off in June in the Coast region, made its Rift Valley debut in Turbo Market, Uasin Gishu County, where it was officially launched in partnership with Royal Media Services.

The tour is leveraging the influence of RMS’s regional radio powerhouses—Radio Citizen and Chamgei FM—to mobilize communities and spread awareness of the celebratory activities.

Speaking at the launch, Grace Nganga, Business Lead in Trans Nzoia County, emphasized the tour’s significance in giving back to the community that has supported M-PESA’s growth over nearly two decades.

“We’re celebrating more than just a mobile service. M-PESA has transformed lives and enabled businesses, and now we’re here to recognize and appreciate our customers who made that possible,” she said.

Throughout the Rift Valley leg, the caravan has made stops in Soy, Matunda, Moi’s Bridge, and Kitale, attracting enthusiastic crowds eager to participate in the festivities. Customers engaged in interactive activities and games, including the popular “M-PESA or Box” challenge, where lucky participants won branded merchandise and prizes.

“It’s exciting to see how M-PESA continues to evolve and connect with people on the ground,” noted Vincent Ateya, Radio Citizen’s Programs Manager, who was on-site during the activation.

The Sokoni campaign is more than just a celebration—it also offers Safaricom an opportunity to educate users on M-PESA’s expanding product ecosystem, including Lipa na M-PESA, Fuliza, M-PESA Global, and M-PESA Go for youth.

As the tour gains momentum across the Rift Valley, Safaricom has reiterated its commitment to reaching every corner of the country, rewarding customers and reinforcing M-PESA’s role as a pillar of economic empowerment and digital transformation.
