Energy and Petroleum Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir has appointed Paul Ngugi as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Geothermal Development Company (GDC).

Eng. Ngugi now comes in to replace former CEO Jared Othieno whose term at the State agency ended on April 18, 2023.

He assumes office immediately in the government owned corporation which is tasked with developing steam fields and selling geothermal steam for electricity generation to the Kenya Electricity Generating Company PLC (KenGen) and private investors.

The former GDC Business Development General Manager emerged top out of 15 candidates who were interviewed to occupy the office on a three-year-term.

Ngugi, who has a 25-year wealth of experience in the geothermal sector, was a long serving drilling Engineer at KenGen as the head of Geothermal Planning at Olkaria.
