KICC CEO James Mwaura to head Africa's meetings industry association

ICCA is a global network representing top organizations in the meetings and events industry.

The African chapter, with 50 members, plays a crucial role in developing the continent's meetings and events sector, aiming to make Africa a prime destination for business conferences.

As Chair, Mwaura will lead efforts to showcase Africa's potential for hosting major events. He will work with chapter members to capitalize on the continent's vast potential in the meetings and conference business, boosting the number of international events held in Africa.

Mwaura's influence will play a key role in attracting rotational conferences to the country, further strengthening Kenya's position as a MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) tourism hub.

"My goal is to leverage this position to solidify Kenya's reputation as a premier destination for conference tourism," said Mwaura. Highlighting Africa's capabilities will be key, showcasing the continent as a global business partner. "With strong in-country partnerships, African countries can successfully host major events, and ICCA Africa will ensure this potential is recognized," he emphasized.

This leadership role grants Kenya access to valuable industry data and insights, informing strategic decisions in the MICE sector. It also increases global visibility through speaking opportunities at international ICCA forums.

“Kenya will be well-positioned to secure leads for hosting major conventions," he stated.

The ICCA African Chapter advocates for Africa's growth in the global meetings industry, promoting collaboration between African countries, nurturing industry talent, and shaping a positive image of Africa as a unique and inspiring destination for international events.
