Kenyan manufacturers urged to embrace technology for workforce productivity

Stakeholders in Kenya's manufacturing sector have been encouraged to embrace innovative technology solutions to enhance workforce productivity and operational efficiency.

Speaking at a conference on workforce management in the manufacturing industry, SeamlessHR CEO Dr. Emmanuel Okeleji noted that the sector is undergoing significant changes driven by technological advancements and evolving regulatory frameworks.

“The Kenyan manufacturing sector is undergoing a fundamental shift. The future depends on adopting data-driven solutions that optimize productivity, streamline operations, and create a culture of continuous improvement,” said Dr. Okeleji.

He emphasized that adopting such technologies would help manufacturers future-proof their operations, enhance efficiency, and achieve sustainable growth.

Acting CEO of the Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM), Tobias Alando urged manufacturers to embrace innovation to stay competitive.

“Workforce productivity is not just about technology; it’s about fostering a culture that empowers employees, increases efficiency, and drives business growth,” he said.

The event also featured a panel discussion on improving productivity to drive growth. Panellists, including David Muriuki, General Manager of Soy Afric; Tejal Dodhia, Managing Director of Thika Cloth Mills Ltd; and Bryan Kariuki, Vice President for Eastern Africa at SeamlessHR, agreed on the importance of advanced workforce solutions. They stressed the need for manufacturers to align workforce skills with business goals and prioritize upskilling employees to adapt to evolving demands.

Participants also called for concerted efforts to integrate innovative technologies and foster a culture of continuous improvement to strengthen the manufacturing sector’s resilience and global competitiveness.
