Kenya sends delegation to Dubai Tourism Challenge
The delegation, drawn from Kenyatta University, Strathmore University, and Boma International Hospitality College, will participate in the prestigious event scheduled from January 21 to 25. The students and educators will showcase innovative solutions tailored to address global tourism and hospitality challenges.
She lauded the participants for their dedication and emphasized the importance of nurturing talent in the sector, which is critical to Kenya's economy.
“This delegation represents the best of Kenya’s tourism and hospitality sector. They embody the excellence our country is renowned for globally,” said CS Miano.
The Middle East and Africa Future Leaders Challenge is a platform for fostering creativity and collaboration among young leaders in the tourism industry. Kenya's delegation has been meticulously prepared by the Global Tourism Resilience and Crisis Management Centre (GTRCMC) Eastern Africa Chapter, a key player in advancing tourism education and crisis management.
The Cabinet Secretary highlighted the Ministry’s efforts to empower the youth through initiatives like the Youth in Tourism and Conservation program, which aims to nurture innovation and entrepreneurship. She also emphasized the importance of the Tourism Training Revolving Fund, a government initiative offering financial support for education in tourism-related fields.
“This fund is vital for developing a skilled workforce to drive excellence and sustainability in Kenya’s tourism industry,” Miano noted, adding that the government’s efforts align with President William Ruto’s vision of economic empowerment.
Kenya’s participation in the Dubai event is expected to boost its global standing in the tourism and hospitality sector while fostering regional collaborations. Nairobi will host a regional edition of the Future Leaders Challenge in April 2025, providing East Africa with a platform to spotlight its tourism potential and nurture local talent.
