Joy Masinde named new Kenya Power Chairperson after Yeda ouster
Joy Brenda Masinde has been appointed the new Kenya
Power Board Chairperson replacing Vivienne Yeda who was ousted from the firm.
Masinde is an advocate of the High Court and is the
current Executive Director of the East Africa Centre for Law and Justice (EACLJ).
Previously, Ms Masinde was the Executive Director of
the Christian Legal Education Aid and Research (CLEAR).
She currently serves on various boards including the
Evangelical Alliance of Kenya and the Kenya Students Christian Fellowship and
the Deliverance Church International Council.
Masinde is also a member of the Law Society of Kenya
(LSK) where she has previously served as a Council Member.
She has been appointed alongside six other Directors
during Kenya Power’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on Friday with other
directors being; CS National Treasury, PS Ministry of Energy and Petroleum, Dr.
Duncan Ojwang, Eng. Albert Mugo, Logan Christi and Veska Kangogo.
The departing Vivienne Yeda who resigned from the
board on Friday had been the board’s Chairperson since November 2020.
Her two-year stay at the utility’s board was however tumultuous
as she and other board members faced pressure to quit from staff members over
claims of mismanagement.
The board was nevertheless accused of being
overbearing on the firm’s managers with a report from the Auditor General
suggesting the board had technically taken over the day-to-day running of the company
based on its excessive meetings.
Yeda was forced to resign from the board as the
National Treasury which is Kenya Power’s major shareholder failed to back her
re-appointment.
