Indian carrier IndiGo Airline has announced
the addition of Nairobi to its 6E network, marking its 28th international
destination.
Starting from August 5, 2023, IndiGo will be
offering daily non-stop flights between Mumbai, India, and Nairobi.
The new
route is a significant milestone in IndiGo's international expansion strategy
as it makes its entry into the African subcontinent.
The airline’s Head of Global Sales, Vinay
Malhotra, expressed his delight, emphasizing the importance of strengthening
bilateral ties between India and Kenya.
Mr. Malhotra
also noted the significant developments in trade, investment, and
people-to-people exchanges between the two countries.
“With India emerging as
Kenya's third-largest trading partner and witnessing increased investments in
key sectors like commerce, technology, and agriculture, this new air route will
further enhance economic ties and facilitate seamless connectivity between the
two countries,” he said.
Kenya’s Tourism Board Acting CEO John
Chirchir also expressed his satisfaction with IndiGo's decision, adding that he
sees it as a milestone in attracting more visitors from India, the leading
Asian source market.
He stated that the direct access to Nairobi,
a regional business and travel hub, will offer leisure tourists, business
visitors, and investors a convenient and seamless connection to the
destination, complementing the services provided by Kenya Airways, the national
carrier.
“Our collaboration includes
a series of tactical marketing and sales campaigns to solidify Kenya's position
as the preferred travel destination for Indians who are keen on wildlife and
safari, beach, culinary, adventure, business meetings or events, and special
occasions like weddings and honeymoon,” said Chirchir.
