Equity expands PayPal partnership, allows mobile-app linkage

Equity Group has expanded its payment partnership with global digital payment provider PayPal allowing for linkages to the bank’s mobile application and internet banking.

The expansion brings PayPal withdrawal service to the Equity Mobile App and Equity Online.

The move is set to streamline the onboarding process of customers’ PayPal accounts.

“This is a significant move as Kenya gears towards accelerating the uptake of e-commerce and the adoption of digital payment models such as direct payments into their Equity accounts through PayPal,” noted Equity Bank Kenya Managing Director Gerald Warui.

“Equity continues to implement its innovation and digitization strategy with the goal of streamlining customer experience.”

Currently, Equity Bank is the only local lender offering a 24-hour withdrawal service which allows PayPal account holders to withdraw funds paid from their registered PayPal accounts to their bank accounts.

The service is mostly deployed by households, freelance writers and businesses involved in cross-border trade who receive payments or remittances from abroad.
