Enos Njeru has been re-elected as the
National Chairman of the Kenya Tea Development Agency (KTDA) Holdings Limited
for a three-year term.
The decision was made during a board meeting
held in Mombasa on Friday, and witnessed by Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Dr.
Andrew Karanja as well as Tea Board of Kenya Chairman Jacob Kahiu.
Eric Chepkwony, representing the Bomet Tea
Zone, was elected as the Vice-Chairman of the Board in the process.
Mr. Njeru, who represents the Embu Tea Zone,
will continue to steer the agency in its strategic initiatives.
In his acceptance speech, Mr. Njeru
emphasized the board's commitment to implementing the Tea Act, which he
believes will provide a robust legal framework for KTDA's operations and
safeguard the interests of all stakeholders.
"The focus of the board will be on the
implementation of the Tea Act, which will enable us to expand our market reach
while promoting a strong tea consumption culture within our country," he
said.
Key areas of focus for the board include
championing tea consumption culture, improving tea quality, product
diversification, establishing a common user facility, and broadening the tea
market.
"By expanding our market reach, we will
reduce the volumes of unsold teas, thereby improving the financial health of
KTDA and its affiliated factories," Mr. Njeru added.
