Absa Bank Finance Chief Yusuf Omari named interim CEO
The
board of Absa Bank Kenya Plc has named the lender’s Chief Finance Officer (CFO)
Yusuf Omari as interim CEO effective from November 1, 2022.
Omari
is set to replace Jeremy Awori who steps down as CEO after nearly a decade on
October 31, 2022.
Yusuf
Omari has been Absa’s (formerly Barclays Bank Kenya) CFO since 2009.
He
has previously held other positions within the bank including serving as its
Regional Head of Internal Audit and as the Regional Head of Compliance.
Last
month, Absa Bank Kenya announced the exit of its long-serving CEO at the end of October
and embarked on a recruitment process to fill the vacancy.
The
departing Jeremy Awori was subsequently named as the new Chief Executive
officer of Togolese Ecobank Group.
Yusuf
Omari holds a Bachelor’s in Economics from the University of Nairobi (UON) and
a Master’s in Business Administration from the Strathmore Business School.
