Kakamega High School rugby head coach Amos Wamanga has backed Kabras RFC to maintain their dominance in the Kenya Cup as the new season kicks off next month.
Wamanga said the team’s depth, experience, and continuity give them a clear edge over their rivals, making them favorites to retain the title for a fourth consecutive year.
“They are still the favorites to win the Kenya Cup title. Kabras have a very strong squad that has been together for a long time, which ensures consistency and continued development,” said Wamanga.
The coach also highlighted the advantage of having several Kabras players feature for both the national 15s (Simbas) and 7s (Shujaa) teams, noting that their exposure at the international level benefits the club.
“Most of their players have represented the Simbas and Shujaa, and that experience translates into better performance when they return for club duties,” he added.
Wamanga, a seasoned rugby tactician, further praised Kabras RFC’s recruitment strategy, which focuses on nurturing young talent from local secondary schools, particularly within the Kakamega region.
“They have a well-structured recruitment plan. By drafting top players from leading rugby schools in the region, they build strong team chemistry and ensure long-term development,” he said.
Kabras RFC will be seeking to clinch their fourth straight Kenya Cup title when the 2025 season begins next month.
