St. Anthony’s Boys’ Kitale head coach Peter Mayoyo has promised a strong comeback for his side when the national school games resume, insisting last season’s disappointment has only sharpened their resolve.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, the veteran tactician said the team has gone back to the drawing board after falling short in last year’s regional finals, where they lost to eventual champions St. Joseph’s Kitale.

Mayoyo believes the setback has provided valuable lessons and renewed hunger within the squad as they chase a return to their glory days.

“Last year was very disappointing for the team, we had a good team and we didn’t manage to get to the national. But all that was a good lesson for us. We have gone back to the drawing board and I can assure you we will bounce back stronger this year,” said Mayoyo

Away from the school games, Mayoyo also tipped 12-time Kenyan Premier League champions AFC Leopards to mount a serious title challenge this season, citing renewed hunger and experience within the club’s leadership.

“AFC leadership knows the pressure that comes from the fans to win the league. Both the chairman and the coach won it in 1998 and I believe they know what it takes to win. They have also taken advantage of other title rivals’ problems and won their games,” stated the head coach.

After the weekend’s fixtures, Ingwe sit second on the league table with 33 points, level with leaders Gor Mahia, who hold a superior goal difference.
