‘Silly’ mistakes, inconsistency cost Ulinzi Warriors in KNBL defeat, coach Mufutu says

Ulinzi Warriors head coach Bernard Mufutu has blamed ‘silly’ mistakes and a lack of consistency as the main reasons for their weekend loss in the Kenya National Men’s Basketball Premier League (KNBL) match played on Saturday.

The soldiers fell 53-59 to University of Nairobi’s Terror in a closely contested match at Nyayo Gymnasium, Nairobi.

“It was a tough loss against the students,” Mufutu said. “The downside was our inconsistency on both ends of the court. Our shot selection was poor, and defensively, especially with free throws, we just weren’t good enough. Moving forward, we need to stay locked in and play with focus for the full 40 minutes.”

Ulinzi started strong, winning the first quarter 21-15, but fell in the second, losing it 09-16 to trail 30-31 at halftime.

After the break, the soldiers bounced back and took the lead again with a narrow 11-10 in the third quarter but were outscored 12-18 in last quarter to hand UON Terror a 53-59 win.

The defeat leaves Ulinzi with 21 points after 13 matches, with eight wins and five losses.
