Reigning champions NCPB beat rivals Ulinzi 35-30 in a feisty Handball National Men’s League clash held at the Nyayo National Stadium to continue their impressive run of form in the league.
NCPB, who currently top the league standings, dominated the match from the whistle firing on all cylinders as they seek to retain their title this season.
Their fast breaks, coupled with precise passing kept Ulinzi on the back foot throughout the first half winning 15-12.
The second half saw Ulinzi’s top scorer on Sunday Kevin Wanke try to put up a spirited fight netting 10 goals but NCPB proved too tough to beat.
Speaking to Citizen Digital in a post-match interview, Ulinzi coach Nickson Oyaro bemoaned their loss to unforced errors, committing to many turnovers and failing to well execute their attack but he remained optimistic they will play better in the final matches of the league.
“We had prepared well but as a sportsman you win, you lose, today was not our day. Losing balls and turnovers is what we will be looking for in the next matches.”
His opposite number Bryan Mathews saw his team correct a few mistakes he noticed in the first half of the game that could see them risking losing the match.
“In the 1st half we didn’t take lots of counter attacks which we did in the 2nd half. In defense we switched from a 6-0 defense to a 5-1 defense which really worked for us plus the 3 goalkeepers were totally outstanding.”
NCPB will face Equity in their next game while Ulinzi face University side Daystar.
