“Between the 14th and 15th of this month, we shall be hosting the HSBC Sevens at Nyayo. We want to invite all Kenyans to come out and cheer our people so that we can get back to where we were,” Mwangi said.
For the Shujaa, the tournament represents more than just a fight for victory. After competing in Division Two, the men’s team is eager to reclaim its place in the top tier and reaffirm Kenya’s status among the world’s rugby sevens powerhouses.
The Lionesses are equally determined, seeking to showcase their strength, resilience, and skill on home soil. Their campaign is also about inspiring a new generation of female rugby players across the country.
Fans in Nairobi can expect two days of fast-paced, high-intensity rugby, where every tackle, pass, and try will count.
Both teams have been preparing intensively for the tournament. The Shujaa have focused on sharpening their speed and tactical execution, while the Lionesses have worked on building teamwork and resilience as they prepare to face strong international opposition.
Mwangi emphasised that fan support can make a decisive difference on the pitch, urging Kenyans to fill the stadium and bring the energy that drives the teams forward. He noted that the roar of the crowd is just as important as any training session.
As anticipation builds ahead of the tournament, Nyayo Stadium is set to host not only thrilling rugby action but also a celebration of Kenyan pride and unity.
For the Shujaa and the Lionesses, the HSBC Sevens is a chance to regain momentum. For the fans, it is an opportunity to be part of their journey, every tackle, every try, every step of the way.
