FKF Premier League side Ulinzi Stars have announced the appointment of Lieutenant Colonel David Nganga as the club’s new chairman, ushering in a new era of leadership after a disappointing 2024–25 season.

The military side, which last lifted the Kenyan Premier League title in 2010, endured a difficult campaign, finishing 12th in the standings with 38 points, just three above the relegation zone. The season was marred by inconsistency and underwhelming results that also caught the attention of the Chief of Defence Forces, General Charles Kahariri, in last month’s Defence Forces Athletics Championships at the Ulinzi Stadium, calling for a reflection of positive performances across all military teams.

In a statement shared on their official social media platforms, Ulinzi Stars confirmed the leadership change, expressing deep appreciation for the outgoing chairman, Colonel Dennis Tialal.

“We take this opportunity to express our heartfelt gratitude to Colonel D.M. Tialal for his outstanding leadership, dedication, and unwavering commitment as Chairman of Ulinzi Stars FC. His guidance has seen the team grow both on and off the pitch, and we salute him on his well-deserved promotion.”

Colonel Tialal's tenure, while challenging on the pitch, was praised for strengthening the club’s internal structure and laying the groundwork for future growth with notable developments in both the youth and the ladies teams. He is also credited for supporting the young and ambitious coaches in the military to attain coaching licenses. His exit paves the way for Lt. Col. Nganga to step in with a clear mandate: return the four-time champions to the top of Kenyan football.

“As we turn a new chapter, we proudly welcome Lieutenant Colonel David Nganga as the new Chairman of Ulinzi Stars FC. With his leadership and vision, we look forward to continued growth, discipline, and excellence both in football and in service to the community,” the club added.

The leadership transition is seen as a strategic step toward restoring Ulinzi Stars’ competitive edge. The club has experienced a gradual decline in recent years, with their best finish in recent times being ninth place with 49 points during the 2022–23 season

As the 2025–26 season approaches, fans will be hoping that Lt. Col. Nganga's leadership brings renewed ambition, stability, and a return to winning ways. The club has urged its supporters to rally behind the new chairman and embrace a fresh start.
