Former marathon record holder Eliud
Kipchoge says he is pleased with his performance at the London Marathon despite
finishing sixth.
Speaking after the race, Kipchoge said
completing the race proved he still has what it takes to compete at the highest
level.
“I am really happy, the fact that I finished the race means I have
really improved and I can run many races in future. I know this place, I have won
four times and I am always proud coming here to race and inspire more athletes,” said
Kipchoge.
The four-time London Marathon winner,
the last victory coming in 2019, lauded race winner Sabastian
Sawe and fellow Kenyan Alexander Mutiso, who finished third, saying Kenya’s
marathon future has been by the emerging talent.
“I am so happy for them, they are really working hard to keep on
improving and having been in the world of athletics for 22 years, I can tell
you the future of athletics is secured for both men and women,” averred Kipchoge.
The two-time Olympic champion has now set
his sights on the Sydney Marathon, scheduled for the August 31, 2025.
“I will be racing in Sydney later this year. I am going to train and make sure that I am ready for August and hopefully I can win the race,” stated the two-time Olympic champion.
