Kayole Starlets assistant coach Vincent Ngesa has backed his side to return to winning ways when they face Madira Soccer Assassins in a Kenyan Women Premier League (KWPL) clash set for Sunday at Utalii Grounds.

Kayole slipped to fourth on the table after a narrow 2–1 defeat to league leaders Trinity Starlets last weekend at Comboni Polytechnic Grounds in Gilgil. The Nairobi-based side, one of the most consistent teams in recent KWPL seasons, has built a reputation for disciplined defending and quick transitions, but that loss exposed inefficiencies in front of goal.

Speaking after training, Ngesa said the technical bench has addressed the shortcomings from the Trinity match and expects a sharper performance.

“We have worked on the mistakes from our previous fixture and the players are ready. We created enough chances but lacked the cutting edge in attack. That has been our main focus in training, and I expect an improved showing,” he said.

Kayole currently sit fourth with 20 points, while Madira Soccer Assassins are 10th and fighting to climb away from the lower half of the table. Madira, still seeking consistency in their debut KWPL campaign, will be eager to upset one of the title contenders. A win would lift them to ninth, while three points for Kayole could propel them into second place, depending on other results.

Other fixtures

Elsewhere this weekend, Kisped Queens host Bungoma Queens at Moi Stadium, Kisumu, as defending champions Kenya Police Bullets welcome table-toppers Trinity Starlets in a high-profile encounter. Gideon Starlets will face four-time champions Vihiga Queens at Raila Odinga Stadium in Homa Bay.

The only Saturday fixture sees Ulinzi Starlets take on Kisumu All Starlets at Dandora Stadium.

League standings

After nine rounds, Trinity Starlets lead the standings with 20 points, ahead of Ulinzi Starlets on 17. Kenya Police Bullets and Kayole Starlets are level on 16 points, with Vihiga Queens rounding off the top five on 15.

With the title race already tightening, this weekend’s fixtures could significantly shape the early-season pecking order in the KWPL.
