According to ICT CS Eliud Owalo, the hubs will be used to train youth on digital skills under government’s Ajira Digital program.
“We discussed collaboration that involves the setting up of digital hubs in Kibra and other informal settlements in Kenya,” CS Owalo said in a statement after a meeting with SHOFCO CEO and Founder Kennedy Odede.
On his part, Odede noted that Shofco has been spearheading training programmes focused on empowering youth with digital skills, and the partnership will augment what it’s already up and running.
“When we empower our youth, we build more inclusive and resilient societies where everyone has a voice and can contribute to development of the community. Most of our programs are about empowering youth and women,” noted Odede.
The Ajira Digital program is a government initiative designed to empower over one million young Kenyans by facilitating access to digital job opportunities.
SHOFCO has also been at the forefront in addressing challenges facing youth across Kenya, especially those in the informal settlements and semi-rural areas.
Through its Youth Voice program, the organisation is seeking to reach two million youth across Kenya in the next five years through various courses that include sports, financial access, training, job placements, and mental health sessions.
“Under our Youth Voice program, young people in the informal settlements will have access to dignified work by participating in job training and will be connected to employment opportunities, bursaries and financial literacy education,” said Odede.
