Police in Kirinyaga are investigating the death of a third year student from Kirinyaga university who went missing last week and whose body was found dumped in River Thiba.

Confirming the incident, Mwea West sub-county police commander Wilson Koskei said the body of Felix Kibet Langat, 22, was retrieved on Monday evening after a report made at Kutus police post.

"The deceased's body had no visible injuries. We are investigating," Koskei said.

The police boss said the body was discovered  by residents, who alerted police officers.

Koskei said  before Kibet went missing,  he was in the company of three others.

"We are treating it as a case of drowning until a postmortem is conducted," he said.

One resident, Peter Kimyua, said there were over 200 SIM cards in the man's house.

"I think something somewhere went wrong and police should investigate," he said.

Kibet's body was taken to Kibugi Funeral Home awaiting a postmortem.

This is not the first incident involving a university student.

In June this year, Collins Kimeto, who was a software engineering student, lost his life after being waylaid and robbed by six people on his way to his hostel.
