Residents in Nairobi's Umoja Estate have welcomed a clean-up exercise.
This follows calls to rid the area of piles of garbage that have not only been an eye sore but also a health hazard.
"We have seen trucks collecting garbage in the area. This will help reduce dumping," a resident told Citizen Digital.
They however called for consistency in order to keep the area dirt-free.
The move has been hailed as a step in the right direction, though a lot has to be done.
"This is but the first step in the journey to clean up our area. We also urge residents to keep the environment clean," said another.
Earlier, residents called for joint efforts in changing the face of Umoja, even as they criticized those who dump garbage along the footpaths.
