Voi police nab pastors accused of conning jobseekers

Police in Voi, Taita Taveta County, have arrested two pastors who are accused of conning 200 jobseekers of Ksh300 each.

According to area police boss Joshua Lutukai, the two were apprehended while they were in the process of collecting money from the unsuspecting public promising to offer them jobs in different parts of the county.

People had come from all parts of the county to submit their CVs to the pastors at Dan Mwazo in Voi, but the process was disrupted when police arrested the pastors at about 11:00am.

Jobseekers were stranded after the officers interrupted the exercise, and they decamped to Voi police station. The victims claimed that they were not given clear information about the NGO adding that there was no information about the organization online.

Fellow pastors who were conducting the recruitment exercise say their NGO, East Africa International, has operations across the country. Speaking to members of the press, they asked why the police were interfering with an exercise that would help eradicate poverty.

Police requested the aggrieved public to allow them to complete investigations into the matter, promising that they accused would be taken to court.
