OKA leaders say they will win 2022 elections, dismiss talk of a two-horse race

OKA co-principals Musalia Mudavadi, Kalonzo Musyoka, Gideon Moi and Moses Wetangula.

  • Speaking on Tuesday in Taita Taveta County, the OKA principals Kalonzo Musyoka, Musalia Mudavadi, Gideon Moi and Moses Wetangula described their outfit as the safest team to take over from President Uhuru Kenyatta.
  • “Kuna wengine wanasema ati kuna farasi wawili…mmoja alikuwa anakimbia peke yake na ma wheelbarrow, huyo amefika kikomo…sisi tumekuwa tukipima marathon, tunakuja, tuna uzoefu na tutaweza kwa hakika,” stated Kalonzo, dismissing projections by opinion pollsters that the DP is leading in the State House race.

One Kenya Alliance (OKA) leaders have scoffed at the characterization of next year’s presidential contest as a two-horse race, pitting Deputy President William Ruto against Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga.

Speaking on Tuesday in Taita Taveta County, the OKA principals Kalonzo Musyoka, Musalia Mudavadi, Gideon Moi and Moses Wetangula described their outfit as the safest team to take over from President Uhuru Kenyatta.

With political pundits and observers reducing President Kenyatta's succession race to a contest between his handshake partner Raila Odinga and the country’s second-in-command William Ruto, the OKA brigade dismissed calls to pick either side of the divide.

“Kuna wengine wanasema ati kuna farasi wawili… mmoja alikuwa anakimbia peke yake na ma wheelbarrow, huyo amefika kikomo…sisi tumekuwa tukipima marathon, tunakuja, tuna uzoefu na tutaweza kwa hakika,” stated Kalonzo, dismissing projections by opinion pollsters that the DP is leading in the State House race.

“Jamaa alikuwa anaona mimi na Raila na Wetangula tukipigwa teargas tulipoandamana kwa sababu kura yetu ilikuwa imeibiwa, akasema mara ya kwanza aliona a whole vice president amekaa chini kwa lami, lakini vindu vichenjanga, sasa naona wakati wake wa kukaa kwa lami unakaribia,” he added.

In a bid to win the hearts and minds of the Coast region electorate, the leaders had a bag of promises; from reforms in land ownership and mining rights, economic revival, free education to cost-free healthcare.

“Ni lazima tujue kwamba atakayekuwa rais ni yule ataaminika, ni yule akisema tunataka uchumi uboreshwe aaminike, akisema tutapigana na ufisadi, anaaminika,” Mudavadi said.

His counterpart Wetangula added: “OKA ikiingia, Tsavo East na Tsavo west itakuwa degazetted kama national park ikuwe national reserve, ili hizo mabilioni zinatoka huko iwe ni mali ya watu wa Taita Taveta.”

The OKA leaders’ political promissory note also included free healthcare and cost-free education.

“Serikali ya OKA itahakikisha kuna free and compulsory education for all, hata ile ya juu…na hata maziwa tutarudisha,” said Moi.

“OKA ikiingia, kila mwananchi wa Kenya, awe wana bodaboda au mama mboga, hata wale warembo wetu wa kazi ya jioni, kila mtu atakuwa na card ya NHIF, ukiingia hospitali ni kupata matibabu bila kulipa,” added Wetangula.
