Rangers, Thika tussle over coveted defender Ngotho
Posta Rangers head coach Samuel ‘Pamzo’ Omollo is confident of landing Thika United defender Suleiman Ngotho on a free transfer, despite the latter’s reluctance to release the player.
Ngotho’s contract runs down on December 31 and the player is at crossroads.
Thika has initiated talks with the utility defender with the aim of handing him a new-improved contract in a bid to ward off interest from Posta Rangers but he is yet to commit to the offer.
However, in an interview with Citizen Digital, ‘Pamzo’ expressed confidence of landing the coveted talent.
“We approached Suleh because he is talented and signing him will be beef up our defence. We already spoke with him and we are sure by New Year he will be our player,”Omollo said, adding that, “everything is sealed. Contract, salary, name it. He will be a regular starter here for he is a total defender, very good with aerial balls, build-ups and tackling too.”
However, Thika’s head coach Nicholas Muyoti has vowed not to back down from convincing his key player to sign a new contract.
“We are locked in talks with him. He has been our key player and I would like him to stay. We will do everything to hold onto him, but if he gets a better offer and he is happy to leave, we will wish him well.” Muyoti told Citizen Digital.
Thika has already lost another defender, Wilson Anekeya, who ditched them for Kakamega Homeboyz. Ngotho’s loss will be a major blow to the club which preserved its KPL status after narrowly edging National Super League side, Ushuru FC in the playoffs.
Meanwhile, Rangers who finished fourth in the 2017 league campaign with 51 points, have already signed attacking midfielder Peter Nga’ng’a from Nakuru All Stars.
