Kipyegon's family wants the officer reportedly attached to the Kericho county governor’s security detail to face the full force of the law.
At Brook Area in Kericho county, the family of 24-year-old Leonard Kipyegon is struggling to come to terms with the death of their kin who met his death on Monday night after he was allegedly beaten by one of their neighbours over claims that he had stolen beehives.
The deceased said to have been picked up by the officer who is said to have attacked him up using a hammer
"Nilikuja mpaka nyumbani nikaskia nduru sasa kushuka hapo chini ndio nikapata kama anapigwa na alikuwa anatumia panga na rungu na nyundo," John Yegon, an uncle to the deceased said.
A 24-year-old Emmanuel Kiprotich who was also beaten alongside the deceased is currently receiving treatment at the Kericho County Referral hospital, nursing broken limbs.
It is alleged that the two men were called by the main suspect, who is reported to be a attached to the Kericho governor’s office, who then in the company of another his friend,a prison warden, beat the two men at 7pm Monday, the family now calling for justice for their kin.
"Mimi naomna kabisa kama huyu mtu ni wa serikali kama kweli hawa watu walikosa ni watoto na ni kweli wamekosa si iko njia ingine unaweza funfa wao ukipeleka kwa police sio kuua mtu," Stella Chirchir, the boy's aunt said.
Kericho county police commander Silas Gichuge says his officers are looking for the suspect and has urged members of the public to give information of his whereabouts to police.
