Kenya Women Premier League defending champions Vihiga Queens mercilessly hammered Eldoret Falcons 5-0 in a league match played on Sunday at Mumias Sports Complex.

Red-hot Tereza Engesha led the demolition bagging a hat-trick. The first goal came in the 10th minute with Janet Bundi providing an assist. Four minutes later Engesha was again on target this time round getting a well calculated cross from Muderi Alice.

Engesha then finished her job with the third goal in the 70th minute.

The other two goals came from Vivian Nasaka in the 23rd minute after a through pass from Janet Bundi before Kebedi Rabai rounded off the rampant performance in the 80th minute.

Alex Alumira, the Vihiga Queens tactician said he was happy with the results saying they are on the ‘’right track’’.

“The game was great, players followed all the instructions; we have started getting our scoring touch. With this confidence I believe we will get a win in our next match in Nakuru against Nakuru West Queens,” he charged.

At the same time Alumira backed Engesha to score many goals, after rediscovering her scoring touch.

With the league divided into two zones, Alumira believes defending the title will be a litmus test as they’ll need to finish in the top three in their zone in order to play in playoffs but reckoned the new approach helps teams reduce operation costs.

On his part Wycliffe Ngoko, Falcons tactician, said they are a ‘small team’ and no match for the Queens.

“For us it’s a learning curve as we are still building a team as most of my players haven’t played in the top tier and we are still trying to recruit more players as most of them are new and still blending with rest,” Ngoko explained.

Vihiga Queens now lead the log on 12 points in KWPL Zone B after four matches. They haven’t conceded so far.
